Commissions
Commission wood sculpture directly from the studio. Peter Mican hand-carves each piece to order in solid local Uruguayan hardwood. Every piece is designed and carved to your specifications — within Peter's established formats and materials.
How a Commission Works
Every commission begins with a conversation. You describe the space where the piece will hang, the mood you want, and any dimensions or
format preferences. Peter then proposes a wave design, discusses wood species and finish options, and confirms the final brief before carving begins.
Once the brief is agreed, a 50% deposit confirms the commission.
Carving takes between 55 and 75 hours depending on format. You receive progress photos at key stages. Final payment is due before shipping.
Materials
Primary woods are Álamo (White Poplar, pale and light) and Cedra Mara
(warm reddish-brown). Caoba is available as a premium option.
All pieces are finished with natural local lanolin and beeswax.
No stains, no varnish, no synthetic coatings.

The Carving Process
Each piece starts as a 3D model in Blender or Plasticity. The wave geometry is refined digitally until the proportions feel right, then printed as a full-scale template. From there, everything is done by hand.
The carving sequence moves from rough shaping with gouges and mallets down to fine detail work with smaller chisels. There are no routers,
no CNC machines, and no power carving tools involved at any stage.
The surface finish is achieved entirely through hand tools and progressively finer sanding.
The final finish is a mix of natural local lanolin and beeswax, applied by hand and buffed. This protects the wood without sealing it, keeping the surface alive and responsive to the humidity of its environment.
Shipping
Sculptures are shipped from Valle del Lunarejo, Uruguay via DAC courier for domestic delivery, and via international freight for overseas commissions.
Each piece is custom-packed in a fitted wooden crate with corner protection.
Shipping cost is calculated at the time of the commission based on destination and format size.
For collectors in Europe, North America, and Australia, international shipping has been arranged successfully on previous commissions.
Peter handles the packing personally to ensure the piece arrives undamaged.
Wood Species
All current commissions are carved in Álamo (White Poplar) — a pale, fine-grained local hardwood that carves cleanly and holds detail well. The natural finish is local lanolin and beeswax. No synthetic varnish.
Additional species including Cedra Mara and Caoba will be available for future commissions.
